University of Wyoming Digital Summit |
||||||||
Present: Robert Aylward, Steve Boss, Maggie Farrell, Mark Greene, Robert Hensley, and Mark Shelstad. Information Technology Services Review: Mark G. asked how the Digital Summit would intersect with the responses given to the services review consultants. Robert A. responded that there had been interest shown in document imaging and archiving and the consultants have experience with the Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002. He hoped that the consultants might have their preliminary findings available by mid-August. Mark G. inquired if the inventories and information provided from the services review could form the basis of an electronic records inventory. Robert A. indicated that the inventories are done at a high level and that some departments refused to complete the questionnaires. Next Steps: Mark G. asked the group where the summit might go in the next year. He proposed that with the services review information, does it make sense to have as our first step to be a meeting geared around document imaging, to invite those interested units to discuss guidelines and infrastructure and to have presentations given on standards, long-term viability, and how document imaging within the realm of other digital activities at UW. Robert H. suggested that it might be beneficial to compartmentalize the meetings on different topics and to gear it toward policy makers. Other topics for meetings included faculty and student teaching and research products/portfolios and perhaps the ECTL could assist with hosting the meeting. Maggie reported that Kevin Lewis is the champion of student eportfolios at the College of Business but is unsure about the length of time access is provided to them. Robert Alyward suggested that the faculty/student portfolios meeting would generate a good deal of interest, as would document imaging, but with just 6-7 units. Mark G. suggested that he would ask Academic Affairs to be on a Dean's Director's Meeting to discuss the faculty/student portfolios and try to hold a meeting with ECTL this fall; he would also discuss with Academic Affairs the idea of holding a stakeholder's meeting on document imaging later in the semester. Updates: Maggie provided an update on activities with the Colorado Alliance. She indicated that the Alliance is exploring the option of hiring consultants to evaluate alliance members for collaborative projects, not just with an institutional repository. |
