2009 Wyoming History Day Special Awards

To be eligible for a Special Award, students must comply with the following rules:

Indicate at the bottom of the registration form the award/s for which you wish to be considered.
If your entry is in the Historical Paper category submit 4 copies of your paper, instead of the normal 3, along with the entry form.
If your entry is in the Web Site category, submit 2 copies of your project instead of 1, on CD-Rs labeled with the names of the participants, division, and entry title along with your registration form.
To be eligible for the awards marked with an asterisk (*) you must submit 3 copies of your process papers and annotated bibliographies, regardless of category, along with your entry form. These copies are in addition to the 3 copies needed for the regular competition.
Students who wish to be considered for the Wyoming State Historical Society Scholarship must meet the special requirements and follow the application procedures outlined under WSHS Scholarship tab on the Wyoming History Day Web Site.

The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America Award Best individual entry dealing with family history	$100 bond
Florence Sommers Jensen History Award Outstanding entry on a subject dealing with Wyoming Women, Homesteading, Ranching, or Schools.	$100
Ft. Laramie National Historic Site Award * Best junior and senior division entries that integrates Trans-Mississippi history (fur trade, emigrants, Native Americans, frontier military history)	$100
Fred & Flossie Graves Homestead Award Best entry featuring an aspect of homesteading	$100 bond
Heart Mountain Foundation Award * Best entry dealing with Heart Mountain Wyoming	$100
Clara Jensen Award Best overall entry on Wyoming History	$100
Jurisprudence Award * Best junior and senior division entries dealing with jurisprudence or legal issues	$125
George M. Nelson Aviation Award * Best entry illustrating the importance of aviation in history with special consideration given to entries that emphasize the importance of aviation in Wyoming.	$100 bond
Roger Williams International Award Best entry dealing with international issues	$100
Taco John's International Scholarship Special Award Senior in high school planning to attend a Wyoming college	$3000
Simpson Institute Award Best junior and senior division entries dealing with political history and leadership	$250
UW American Indian Studies Award * Best entry dealing with American Indian History	$100
UW History Department Award * Best entry that exemplifies outstanding research	$150
UW Women's Studies Award * Best entry on a woman or women in history	$100
Wyoming Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Award Outstanding junior and senior division entries dealing with an aspect of the life and/or career of Abraham Lincoln.	$500
Wyoming Association of Professional Archeologists Award * Best entry on archeological issues	$100
Secondary Education Department: UW College of Education * Outstanding entry dealing with civic education.	$100
Wyoming Pioneer Association Award Best junior and senior division individual performance dealing with a Wyoming pioneer consistent with annual theme	$100
