This scholarship is made possible through an endowment of the Wyoming
State Historical Society (WSHS)
Eligibility Criteria
- Student must be in the 12th Grade
- Student must place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a Wyoming History Day District
competition and therefore be eligible to participate in the Wyoming
State History Day competition
- Student must participate in the State History Day competition but
is not required to place in order to be eligible for the scholarship
- Responsibility for notification of eligibility lies with District
Coordinators and participating teachers
Application Procedures/ Requirements
Applications must be submitted to the Wyoming History Day State Coordinator
and must include:
- a letter addressed to the Wyoming State Historical Society requesting
consideration for the scholarship. The student should explain their
reasons for applying and discuss their interest in history and the History
Day program. The student must also outline his/her future academic plans
- 1 letter of support from a teacher or administrator at the student’s
school
- 1 letter of support from a person in the community (no more than 2
letters may be submitted)
- A copy of the student’s official high school transcript
- A copy of supplemental material from History Day entry
Judging
- All applicants will be interviewed at the State History Day Competition
- All entries will be judged according to their historical quality,
relation to theme, and clarity of presentation
Award
- $1,000 scholarship for the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community
college awarded to the 12th grade student with the entry judged 1st
at Wyoming History Day
- $500 scholarship for the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community
college to be apportioned among student(s) judged 2nd and possibly 3rd
Obligations
- Student who are selected as either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finishers
must send a letter to the WSHS accepting or declining the scholarship
by August 1, 2001. In the event that the 1st place student declines
the scholarship will be awarded to the 2nd place student.
- The 1st place student must provide proof of enrollment in the Fall
2004 at the semester to the WSHS Treasurer to receive payment of the
first half of the scholarship.
- The 1st place student must maintain a C average for the fall semester
and provide proof via a transcript, along with documentation of registration
in the spring semester to receive the second half of the scholarship
.
- The 2nd and/or 3rd place winners must provide proof of enrollment
in the Fall 2001 semester to the WSHS Treasurer to receive payment of
the scholarship.
Deadlines
Deadline for applications is April 5, 2004 and must be submitted to the
Wyoming History Day State Coordinator at:
