Mackey’s lecture focused on Wyoming’s oil industry at the turn of the century and oil prospecting in the state. Mackey discussed Thomas Harrison, a geologist, and his experiences in Northwest Wyoming.  

The lecture took place at the Wyoming Stock Growers’ Room, American Heritage Center Friday, October 30, 1998 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. UW alum Mackey recently published Black Gold: Patterns in the Development of Wyoming’s Oil Industry, a look at the early development of the Oregon Basin oil field. Mackey, a resident of Powell, Wyoming, is a member of the Wyoming State Historical Society and the Wyoming Association of Professional Historians.

A reception for Mr. Mackey followed the lecture in the American Heritage Center Loggia, Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive, University of Wyoming.
