Framing the Wild: Animals on Display is a collaborative exhibition with the UW American Studies Program and the National Museum of ildlife Art. The exhibit is currently on display in the UW Art Museum, Centennial Complex, through December 23, 2002. The exhibit will be on display at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, January 17-May 25, 2003. The display of wild animals is such a pervasive feature of modern culture that it is rarely given a second thought. Everything from beer advertising and sports logos to animal theme parks, and from the elk trophy in the local tavern to the Discovery Channel nature documentary take for granted the appropriateness of and public interest in the display of wild creatures. This exhibit challenges visitors to step back rom such normally unexamined behavior to consider some of the formal conventions, historical factors, and cultural (perhaps even moral) implications involved in wild animal display. The Virginian Exhibit in Coe Library The University of Wyoming Coe Library is currently featuring an exhibit, The Virginian, 100 Years, 1902-2002. The exhibit features books from the UW Libraries Hebard Collection with photographs from the Wister Collection and a foreign book edition courtesy of the American Heritage Center's Toppan Rare Books Library. Books featured in the exhibit include an original edition of The Virginian as well as several ter editions and some foreign language editions. This exhibit is on display on the first floor of the Coe Library. This symposium is sponsored in part by:
