Archives Reading Room to Close June 2– August 4 for Construction

It is with a mixture of regret and relief that we announce the temporary closure of our archives reading room during June and July.  Our regret is, of course, that we will not be able to accommodate researchers on-site during that period.  Limited off-site reference work will be possible during this time, so please consider contacting our reference staff via mail, E-mail, or telephone.  Our reference archivists will advise you whether your requests can be addressed during the closure, or will have to be delayed until the reading room in once again in operation.  We sincerely apologize for the obvious inconvenience this disruption will cause our researchers.

Our pleasure is that the cause of the temporary closure is essential construction in our building to replace an aging fire suppression system.  While the construction will be disruptive, it will result in a much higher level of security for our collections, our patrons, and our staff from the threat of fire in the building.  The temporary closure of the reading room will be only one stage in the construction, which will at one time or another over the summer displace most of our employees and interrupt several of our other activities and services.  But the end result will be a safer, state-of-the-art facility.

While archival repositories frequently have to close temporarily for reasons ranging from relocation to construction, this obviously does not make our closure any less inconvenient for our researchers.  We apologize for this disruption of service, but we hope you will understand the necessity of the construction involved.  If you have questions or concerns not addressed above or by our reference archivists, please feel free to contact me directly, at mgreene@uwyo.edu.  Thank you for your understanding, and for your continued support of our work.

Mark A. Greene, Director
