June 9, 1868

  • Clarke and other army troops stopped at the Little Cottonwood campground on their way to Fort Fetterman.

June 11, 1868

  • Along the LaBonte creek, Clarke encounters a group of Arapaho Indians traveling to Fort Laramie.

June 14, 1868

  • Clarke leaves Fort Fetterman for Fort Reno.

June 21, 1868

  • After a short stay at Fort Reno, Clarke moves on for Forts Phil Kearney and C.F. Smith.

July 4, 1868

  • Clarke and other officers and their wives from C.F. Smith take part in a picnic in the Big Horn Mountains.

July 19, 1868

  • Outside of Fort Reno, Clarke and his cavalry outfit are attacked.
