Alan Kooi Simpson (b. 1931) made his mark as a United States Senator from Wyoming from 1979 to 1997. Like his father, the Cody attorney and University of Wyoming graduate began his political career in the Wyoming Legislature before going on to national office. He served as Republican Whip in the U.S. Senate and was an influential advisor to President Reagan and President George H.W. Bush. He married Ann Schroll in 1954, and they raised three children.
