Milward L. Simpson (1897-1993) was a proud Wyomingite all his life. His political career began in the Wyoming Legislature in 1926. He proved influential in Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidential campaign in 1952 and was elected governor of Wyoming in 1954. He lost the governorship in 1958 but won the run-off for a vacated U.S. Senate seat in 1962. In 1967 poor health forced his retirement, although he remained an audible voice on Wyoming issues throughout the later years of his life. Milward Simpson married Lorna Kooi in 1929 and raised two sons, Alan and Peter.
