(85 boxes) Acc. #548001 Prepared by Chrissy Langille Updated by Theresa Kay Contents The Agricultural Experiment Station donated their records to the University of Wyoming Archives in 1984 and 1996. The collection should be cited as: University of Wyoming. Agricultural Experiment Station Records, Accession Number 548001, Box Number, Folder Number, University of Wyoming Archives, American Heritage Center, University of Wyoming. The University of Wyoming’s College of Agriculture was established in 1891 and administered the Agricultural Experiment Station in Laramie. The station performs studies in agricultural work including plants, soils, and animal breeding. Collection contains letterpress copybooks, correspondence, notes, and meeting minutes of the experiment station office from 1890-1952. Incoming correspondence includes letters from various suppliers, government agencies and the general public. The outgoing correspondence for directors B.C. Buffum, Dice McLaren, G.E. Morton, J.D. Towar, and Harry Knight is specific to the satellite experiment stations in Lander, Sheridan, Sundance and Wheatland, Wyoming. The collection also includes observational weather recordings taken in Laramie, Wyoming, from 1891-1970. Recordings are charted in daily, weekly, and monthly increments with yearly comparisons. Some notes, charts, and graphs are also contained in the collection. The collection also contains 2818 glass plate negatives, taken by director B.C. Buffum from approximately 1899-1913 of the UW Experiment Station in Laramie, Wyoming and around the state. Buffum also took images of the UW campus, livestock, crops and agricultural fairs. The collection has been arranged into three series: Series I. Office Records, 1890-1952. 10.3 cubic ft. (18 boxes). Contains letterpress copybooks, correspondence, notes, and meeting minutes of the experiment station office. Incoming correspondence includes letters from various suppliers, government agencies and the general public. The outgoing correspondence specific to the satellite experiment stations, and to foreign requests are also included in this series. Responses, requests, inquires and personal letters are included in these volumes. Series II. Weather Bureau Records, 1891-1970. 10.64 cubic ft. (18 boxes). Contains observational weather recordings taken in Laramie, Wyoming, from 1891-1970. Recordings are charted in daily, weekly, and monthly increments. Weather bureau observations are bound records of daily observations, weekly and monthly summaries for a years time. Meteorological records compare yearly observations by month. Monthly records are daily recordings of a specific month in a specific year. Monthly summary (later called the climatological summary) contain daily readings in a month by month format for a specific year. Weekly climatological observations are daily readings summarized on a weekly basis. Some notes, charts, and graphs are included in this series of materials. Series III. Glass Plate Negatives, 1899-1913. 9.99 cubic ft. (38 boxes). Contains 2818 glass plate negatives, taken mostly by UW Agricultural Experiment Station director B.C. Buffum. The negatives contain images of UW buildings, faculty, staff and students and from around the state as Buffum traveled to visit the different Experiment Stations in Wyoming. The collection also contains images of the livestock, crops and workers at the Stations and of agricultural fairs. Most of the negatives are 5 x 7 or 3 x 4 inches, but they also are 8 1/2 x 6 1/2, 8 x 10, 8 x 5, or 5.25 x 8 inches in size. Agriculture -- Research -- Wyoming Laramie (Wyo.) Series I.
